Peggy Potter
Peggy Potter handpaints hard maple wooden
bowls and matching serving utensils. Her multi-colored work is inspired
by sojourns in Santa Fe, China and Vermont. Raised in Basking Ridge, NJ,
she attended the University of Madrid. Upon returning to the US, she completed
her education at St. Lawrence University, earning a B.A. in religion and
philosophy. Her world travels have influenced her bowl designs with particular
emphases on the American Southwest, Mexico, Spain and the Caribbean.
Her hand painted bowls are coated with a finish that is safe for both hot and cold foods. They have been recognized by various publications such as the New Yorker, Bon Appetit, Vermont Life and The Santa Fean.
Peggy
explains her philosophy behind bowl making as, "the painted bowl
is only half the picture. The real art for me comes with the placement
of food or other objects against the colorful backdrop of the bowl;
peaches on purple, crisp greens against cobalt, tomatoes against orange–the
ever-changing visual feast of richly sturated hues is a tonic for the
soul."
